Tokyo Electric to Become a Gas Supply Company - Gas Matters
28/03/1998
Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) is reacting to the arrival of liberalisation by stepping out of its traditional mould and declaring itself in competition with Tokyo Gas, the traditional gas supplier in the greater Tokyo area.
Three terminals Tepco has decided to offer LNG-derived gas to large-scale customers from three of its terminals in Tokyo Bay. Sales will begin from Sodegaura (eastern Tokyo Bay) from 2000 or later to customers in Chiba Prefecture; thereafter, gas will be sold into areas on the coastal strip of western Tokyo Bay from terminals at Higashi Ogishima (Kawasaki area) and Negishi (Yokohama area).
The terminals concerned are close to large energy users and Tepco plans to use its own pipeline facilities as far as possible.
