Centrica sold out of Rough storage capacity for next gas year
19/12/2005
Centrica, the owner of UK gas distribution company British Gas, has sold all of next winters’ capacity at the Rough storage facility in the North Sea. The completion comes almost six months before the next storage year starts: on May 1, 2006.
Centrica said the sale had set a record as the earliest ever date that storage services for the winter ahead have sold out. The sale reflects “the continuing strong demand for gas storage services as the UK increasingly imports greater quantities of gas,” it said.
The popularity of Rough, Britain’s largest gas store, is in spite of higher tariffs resulting from the widening spread between summer and winter gas prices that Centrica uses to set its storage prices.
Rough has total storage capacity of 100 Bcf with deliverability of 1.5 Bcf/d. Centrica said sales of Storage Bundled Units (SBUs) for 2007/8 and future years were ongoing and encouraged customers to get in touch to discuss future requirements.
